This Is not love.

                                   Under the tree…

                                            ACT 1

At first it was all about a quest for some isolation. The city was the only place for answers. Rachel is her name, reclusive and looking for a new beginning. First day in the city, sitting at a diner drinking coffee, listening to the footsteps of every customer coming in the diner. Two friends approached her, Chloe and Vincent, both fascinating and exquisite. Chloe and Vincent started evaluating Rachel the moment she walked in the diner. Chloe is a waitress and Vincent a waiter in the diner.

Chloe didn’t want to be involved in the first place but Vincent insisted and placed a bet of which who is going to win her first meaning finding out whether she’s a lesbian or hetero. No one can tell one’s sexual physical appearance just by observation. Rachel is half black and half white, tall skin, bob hair and South African accent.

During their conversation, Rachel and Chloe reached a disagreement and started calling each other by derogative names. Chloe is peevish, left the diner livid and Vincent kept Rachel the busy even when Chloe bounced. They exchanged contacts and made plans together which was a surprise to Rachel. He took her to the nearest theatre along with Chloe and her new free sex Jesse.

In the theatre they all met except for Jesse and Chloe. They both showed up at the same time. The show of the day was called Day light about corrupt cops. They all found the show repulsive. Not long until Chloe and Jesse persecuted each other, that was right after Chloe amend to Rachel about earlier. She was sitting between them and overheard everything they said about each other but at the end they made out in the wash room.

This is the beginning of Chloe’s life, discreet and complicated. Vincent fell for Rachel the same day he laid his eyes on her but Rachel’s purpose to the city is not love but isolation. For a long time, she felt lonely and alone and going to the city thought could change all that. Vincent and Chloe left the theatre together to a club owned by Chloe called Radar Night Club. This is the beginning of Vincent life, acrimonious, illiterate and also a little bit peevish too. It all started when Rachel was very inquisitive about Chloe’s personal life. Vincent got bored and started acting out, pretending to be knackered and at last invited Rachel for his family banquet shutting Chloe out.

Okay. Let me take you back. Chloe’s parents and Vincent parents are old close friends. They are old traditional people, when Chloe dropped a bombshell to her parents about her sexual orientation, they casted her out and Vincent followed her to the city. They live across the country side in a duplex. Two families live together but the house rightfully belong to Chloe’s parents. Over the years Vincent parents went bankrupt and Chloe’s parents welcomed them in.

Vincent’s older sister Jessica is in love with Chloe’s older brother Daniel who helped her through her success in the city. The banquet is more like their family tradition and every year the two families gather together. Ever since Chloe left, she came once with Vincent and caused the scene but this time around, things were different. Instead her parents expected her. As they always say, when is your day, is your day. Chloe’s parents were dying and they saw it coming but before, they wanted to accept their daughter in person which they accomplished at the end.

Chloe arrived late and called Vincent to meet her outside when she arrived. They had a bit of a quarrel. Chloe felt left out and when she learned that her parents were actually expecting her, she was relieved and jaded. Vincent was planning on turning his life around. Before Chloe arrived, Vincent stood up against his parents defending her Chloe until he also learned that her friend Chloe had a coitus with the person he fell in love with, Rachel.

Like I said, from the beginning it was all about one purpose for Rachel, Isolation not love. Vincent confessed everything to Rachel, why they approached her at the diner but it made no difference. Rachel said to Vincent that, “This is not love”. It was never about love for her but friendship and helping a friend in need which is why she posed as his lover in front of his family.

Vincent’s rage resurrected but kept it all inside, bottled up until it blew on his face. The following day, Chloe’s parents were found dead and Vincent was the first person to know because he was looking for Rachel in the morning and that’s when he found her in Chloe’s car naked proving that indeed Chloe won the bet. He didn’t want to believe it at first because of his ego. Nevertheless, Daniel and Chloe decided to go back home to Germany after burying their parents, leaving the house and the family company under Vincent’s care.

Rachel begged Vincent to take her back to the city and after humiliating him in front of his parents and exposing their cover as couples by sleeping with Chloe.  Vincent slapped her very hard that she dropped like a thin paper on the floor helpless. His parents and sister supported his dreadful behaviour towards Rachel because they thought she was flaccid and shallow, truth is she’s not. Rachel is just a woman who woke up under the tree hoping that one day, Chloe will come back and rescue her from Vincent, a man she thought was a good friend and turned out to be evil.

To be continued…

The background of this story is deep and vibrant. Looking back and now the world has evolved a little bit which is a great thing but one thing that is still the same is woman abuse and men get away with it everyday. other women might say it is inevitable but truth is it is not.
